Why Companies Pursue Net Zero
Net Zero Pathways is a strategic plan outlining the steps by which an organisation aims to reach Net Zero emissions. This involves a series of planned actions and milestones that progressively reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to residual levels and enhance GHG removals. Companies strive for Net Zero to mitigate climate change, align with global sustainability goals, and meet regulatory pressures. Achieving Net Zero also bolsters their reputation, attracts eco-conscious consumers and investors, and future-proofs the business by reducing risks tied to resource scarcity, carbon taxes, and regulatory shifts towards a low-carbon economy.
What We Do
EcoVerify independently review a company’s Net Zero Pathway to determine whether the organisation meets all the requirements of this programme. The final decision on whether to grant Validated Net Zero Pathway, Verified Net Zero Pathway Progress or Verified Net Zero Target Achievement recognitions is the sole and exclusive responsibility of EcoVerify.
Net Zero Validation and Verification serves as an official recognition of a company’s robust sustainability efforts, symbolising a high and transparent standard of environmental responsibility.
How to Obtain Net Zero Certification in Ireland
Calculate Your Emissions: Carbon Footprint Validation/Verification: Begin by assessing your current emissions. This is the foundational step in understanding your company’s carbon footprint. GHG emissions and removals inventory are calculated based on ISO 14064-1:2018 and/or the GHG Protocol and Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard. EcoVerify can validate and verify your GHG emissions.
Implement an Emissions Reduction Strategy. Set Ambitious Targets: Establish industry-specific emissions reduction targets. These targets should be both ambitious and achievable, ensuring long-term commitment to sustainability using the key principles in the ISO 14068-1, the Net Zero Standard of SBTi and the ISO Net Zero Guidelines (IWA 42).
Audit and Evaluation: EcoVerify will review the planned emission reductions and removals enhancement to assess whether the organisation is on track to achieve Net Zero or if additional reduction or removal enhancements measures are necessary to meet the target.
Verification and Validation. If the organisation meets the administrative, technical, and legal requirements EcoVerify will proceed to prepare the organisation’s certificate.
Issuing Programme Mark: Once approved, the program mark can be used by the organisation to demonstrate its commitment and progress to Net Zero to customers, partners, and potential investors.
Bi-Annual Audit. Once approved the organisation will receive an audit every year to confirm their Pathway to Net Zero programme is being maintained.
Reverification. A new Net Zero Programme Opinion and Mark can be issued to demonstrate the organisations ongoing commitment to meeting its emission reduction targets.
